Vice City and the state of Leonida: GTA 6's setting and protagonists
Grand Theft Auto VI marks the series' return to Vice City, the neon-soaked stand-in for Miami, set within the wider fictional state of Leonida — Rockstar's reimagining of Florida.
Two protagonists: Lucia and Jason
For the first time in the modern series, GTA 6 follows a pair of playable protagonists, Lucia and Jason. Rockstar has framed their story as a partnership moving through Leonida's criminal underworld. Lucia is the first female lead the mainline series has put front and center.
Leonida: more than one city
Vice City sits at the heart of the world, but Leonida is described as extending well beyond it — Rockstar's official wording points to "the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond." The studio has presented it as its most expansive setting to date.
What we've actually seen
The first trailer arrived in December 2023, introducing the tone, the duo and the setting. Later official material expanded on the world's look. As with the release date, we report on the map, characters and story only from what Rockstar has shown or stated — not from leaks or fan theories.

Just to be careful here: when people say “Leonida is basically Florida” or start mapping every location 1:1, is that actually based on official material, or mostly fan interpretation? From what Rockstar has shown, I’d want a clear source before treating any of those comparisons as confirmed.
From what I understand, the safest approach is to separate what’s explicitly shown from what viewers are inferring. If the article is about official reveals, it probably helps to stick to names Rockstar has used—Vice City, Leonida, Lucia, and Jason—and frame the rest as visual resemblance or speculation rather than confirmation.
